In July 2021 I was having lunch at my friends cafe in Ubud, Bali and I met a lovely young man from Sweden called Joseph.
We got to talking and it turns out that Joseph is a drummer and his father is from Iraq, so not only a drummer, a drummer with the arab rhythms in his DNA.
We jammed a few times and had a great time. One day Joseph told me that he had met an AMAZING violin player who had been playing since she was 3 years old and her name was Maesyn.
Maesyn came for a jam and another jam. We had such an amazing time. The violin, the drums and Suntara so much magic.
We did a few live online events together and I recorded them I took the best of our jams and turned them into this album
The production of this album was a real adventure. Mixing and Mastering was nearly finished but I felt that the tracks didn't sound or feel like they did in the room when Maesyn, Joseph and I were performing.
It was a feeling that you couldn't know unless you were there at the recording sessions.
I took the tough decision to start from scratch and mix them myself. Thankfully I am a Sound Engineer. I just really wanted these recordings to be the best that they could be.
I am so very grateful to my dear friend James Gibson who is Mei-Lan Maurits's partner and producer who helped with the final mixes and mastered the recordings.
These tracks were spontaneously created live. Nothing was composed up front. Violin, Percussion and Suntara.
Raw, real and live. We hope you enjoy listening and most of all feeling this magical collaboration of synchronicity.
